It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Despite the current restrictions, Bath Soft Cheese saw a glimmer of festive cheer on Saturday. Kelston village organised a “Bake-Off” Christmas cake competition which was held at the Bath Soft Cheese cafe. Unlucky for some, but not for our hungry judges, thirteen entrants delivered some mouth-watering cakes.
No one was left with a soggy bottom as the weather held for the first round of judging on Saturday night, with glasses of mulled apple juice and a fire pit to warm the spectators.
For anyone who doubted our village’s baking skills, the proof was in the pudding as each of the cakes was a show-stopper in its own right. The expert judges (two cheesemakers and two cafe chefs, who were all the same shape as Santa after 13 slices of cake) somehow managed to narrow down the cakes to six finalists.
This may have been helped by the “Christmas Spirit” (namely a ten-year-old cognac) that was present in one of the entries… These final slices have now been sent directly to the queen of cakes, ex-Bath resident, @maryberrys_foods herself to taste and announce a winner.
