Our cows have had a busy start to 2021. We’ve had a calf born every day since Christmas day and our calf barn is full of skipping bright-eyed long eye-lashed youngsters.
Initially, they’re kept in individual pens so we can make sure they’re drinking their allotted amount of milk every day. At this time of year we give them smart blue jackets to wear to keep them warm. After a couple of weeks we move them into larger pens so they can be with their peers. Still drinking milk but also having access to organic hay. The milk is brought to them warm from the parlour straight after each milking.
