We have been crowned Supreme Champion at this year’s national Artisan Cheese Awards for our Bath Soft Cheese.
We also won Gold in the ‘Organic’ category for the Bath Soft Cheese and were judged against over 400 cheeses from across the British Isles. The awards winners were announced at a special ceremony at the Cheese Makers Supper on Saturday 4 May 2019 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, during the weekend of the annual Artisan Cheese Fair.
The award-winning organic cheese is made by hand here at Park Farm, Kelston near Bath with milk from its own cows. The Bath Soft square cheese is soft and yielding with a white bloomy rind. Once cut into, it reveals an ivory-coloured interior. The flavour is mushroomy and creamy with a hint of lemons. This cheese dates back to the time of Admiral Lord Nelson who, in 1801, was sent some by his father as a gift. It was recorded that Nelson’s sweetheart was ‘gratified’ by the flavour of this cheese.
Hugh Padfield, Managing Director, Bath Soft Cheese said “This is wonderful news. The whole team have been working hard, on the farm and in the cheese dairy, and this is fantastic recognition and makes it all worthwhile. We believe that our organic cheese is very special but it’s a real boost to hear it from experts in the industry.
