As we shake off the Christmas cobwebs and leave the festive frenzy behind us we are using the calm moments to plan ahead for the coming year. We have high hopes for 2018 and 2017 has given us a strong springboard from which to launch ourselves into the new year.
2017 was a cracking year for us! Arguably our greatest success has been the launching of a new cheese- our Merry Wyfe (a cider-washed rind cheese) which won gold at three different awards (World Cheese Awards, Global Cheese Awards and Artisan Cheese Awards).
We have also slightly altered the Soft Cheese recipe, which has greatly improved the taste and led to us winning Gold at the World Cheese Awards for this cheese.
In October we were voted Somerset’s Life Producer of the Year, which was a huge privilege as we were nominated by the public and in a group with very strong local businesses. We have seen a growth in sales of our cheese wedding cakes over the past year, and our celebration offering was awarded Silver at the Global Cheese Awards.
Café and shop:
Our café continues to grow and we had a fantastic Christmas- welcoming hoards of toastie-hunting, soup-guzzling and cake-feasting cheese lovers through our doors. With the installation of an oven into the kitchen we have been able to introduce a new range of ever-changing homemade cakes, scones and quiches.
As of next week the café will be serving breakfast for the first time- so come in and try our full English, bacon butties and other pre-midday treats between 9.30am-12pm. Over the next year we are planning to expand the café premises so that we can accommodate the growing number of hungry visitors to the farm!
As always, our tours have been very popular and we have seen an increase in the number of educational school visits to the farm. In the next month we will be hosting a group of 60+ French students- bienvenue à vous!
We traded at many more markets and festivals in 2017, spreading the word (and taste!) of Bath Soft Cheese further afield. Both in London and in the South West you will be able to find our range at many local farmers’ markets and foodie events. 2018 is set to be a great year too and we are planning to spread our cheesy wings even further- so make sure to look out for us!
All in all, 2017 was great, but 2018 is going to be even better! We value all of our customers’ support-so thank you all very much for continuing to either buy our cheese, visit the farm or spreading the Bath Soft Cheese word!
This is Maverick, our new Brown Swiss bull who joined the herd at the beginning of December
